Practical image resizing guide
When to resize an image
Resize photos before adding them to websites, stores, email, documents or forms that require maximum dimensions. A correctly sized image avoids transferring pixels that a screen will never display and makes mixed batches more consistent.
Pixels, percentage and aspect ratio
Pixels are best when a destination specifies a width or height. Percentage applies the same relative scale to every file. Keep aspect ratio enabled to avoid distortion; when both pixel values are filled, they act as a maximum box.
What happens to each format
JPG and PNG stay in their original formats. Animated GIF frames are resized and re-encoded with their timing, while SVG keeps its vector shapes and receives new display dimensions. Metadata may not be retained, so keep an untouched original.
Check before downloading
Review the calculated dimensions for every image, especially in a batch with portrait and landscape files. Enlarging can make raster images look softer; use the no-enlarge option when you only want smaller copies.

Choose the right resizing setting
The best option depends on whether the destination asks for exact dimensions, a proportional reduction or a consistent maximum size across mixed images.
Use pixels for a required limit
Choose pixels when a website, marketplace or form gives a maximum width or height. Enter one side and keep the aspect ratio on for a proportional result. If you enter both sides, the tool fits every image inside that box without cropping it.
Use percentage for a mixed batch
Percentage applies the same relative change to every file, even when their original dimensions differ. A 50% setting halves the width and height of each image. It is useful for making a quick lighter copy of an entire folder while preserving every image’s shape.
Understand enlargement and file size
A value above 100% or dimensions larger than the original creates more pixels through interpolation, but it cannot recover missing detail like AI super-resolution. Resizing is also different from compression: smaller dimensions often reduce bytes, while compression changes how those pixels are encoded.

Can I resize animated GIFs?
Yes. The tool resizes all frames and preserves their timing. Very large animations are limited to protect browser memory.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Often, especially when making images smaller, but dimensions and file compression are different. The final byte size depends on the format and image content.
Will SVG stay vector?
Yes. Safe SVG markup remains vector; the tool updates its width, height and view box information when needed.
