When smaller images help

Compression is useful before adding photos to a website, product catalog or portfolio, attaching scans to email, submitting images through a form, sharing a batch with a team or keeping a lighter archive. A smaller file transfers faster and uses less mobile data, but the correct result depends on the image and where it will be used. Keep a separate original when the source may be needed for printing or later editing.

Choose the format by image type

JPEG usually suits photographs and other images with many color variations. PNG is better for screenshots, logos, text and transparent backgrounds when every sharp edge must remain intact. WebP can provide an efficient balance for modern web publishing. GIF is appropriate when an existing animation must stay animated, while SVG should remain vector for icons and illustrations. This tool preserves the source format instead of silently converting every file.

Balance quality and file size

The quality slider changes JPEG and WebP encoding. Start near the default, inspect the preview and lower the value gradually only when you need a smaller result. Fine textures, gradients and small text reveal excessive compression first. PNG, GIF and SVG follow format-specific safe optimization, so the photo-quality control does not pretend to affect them. Results vary with the content and with how efficiently the original was already encoded.

Review the result before publishing

Compare the original and compressed sizes, open the preview at the size people will actually see and confirm that text, transparency, edges and animation still work. If a processed file would be larger, the tool keeps the smaller original. For a batch, download the ZIP only after every result shows as complete; files are processed sequentially to reduce browser memory pressure.

Which image formats are supported?

Will animated GIFs keep their animation?

Yes. GIF animation data is preserved. The tool only removes safe comment metadata and keeps the original when no smaller result is possible.

Why is an optimized file not smaller?

Some files are already efficient. PNG, GIF or highly compressed source images may not shrink, so the tool keeps the smaller original instead of creating a larger file.
